Win XP first little bugs....?? (and more questions)

I just made the transfer from WinMe to WinXP Professional (clean install)-The first things that I 'd like to report are:

1. When I send an internet shortcut from my favorites to the desktop, I can't change the default icon to any other except the 4-5 that appear when u press the change icon in its properties tab although I have a large collection of .ico files from the web and older Win versions. Any clue? (The 4-5 alternative system icons come from url.dll library. Is this the restriction and the only valid alternatives? :disgust:

2. Where is the "disable auto insert notification" we all knew previously? I managed to do this through CloneCD settings but I wonder......Maybe because it's a function that Microsoft is proud of and "advertises" even in the setup procedure, so they decided to hide it from our eyes? :disgust:

3. Does anyone have any idea if Office 2000 is fully compatible under WinXP?

4. What is the XP corporate edition difference from the simple professional? Anything to do with activation or sth?

1. Did you click Browse to find other Icon files?
I was able to pull up \system32\Shell32.dll and
\system32\moricons.dll as valid.

I don't know about individual .ico files, but there used to
be utilities to allow you to consolidate those into separate
icon libraries too.


2. Open My Computer, Right click on the CD Drive and choose properties.
There should be an "AutoPlay" tab you can configure for various types of
CDs.

3. AFAIK it is, but I have not confirmed that myself.

4. corporate is "already activated" with a special marker on the install
process. So it does not need to go thru activation on an individual machine.
Otherwise it is identical to the retail version. As Best I can tell.

Here is the easiest way to disable AIN in XP Pro:

1. Go to Start, Run, and type "gpedit.msc" in the box.

2. Then drill to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System

3. You will see "Turn Off Autplay" on the list. Double Click on it and select "Enable"

4. Close Group Policy Editor (That's where it is but it's hard to find through all of XP's many layers.)

Yeah . . . coorporate versions have a collective activation, and invidual packages for workstations don't have to do that. Same goes for some academic versions.

turned my off by tweaking the registry. off the top of my head it was something like
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE :: SYSTEM :: ControlSet001 :: Services :: Cdrom

Change Autorun to 0.
