How much memory is too much or at what point does it become useless in Win XP. I play games, surf the internet, SETI @ home etc. System Specs on Rigs Page.

Thanks

My memory per DIMM slot is dictated by the mobo . . . not XP. It is presently 256 MB per slot, and all three slots are filled for a total of 768. (Asus K7M) XP could handle more, but the mobo and chipset won't.

According to the M$KB, the maximum memory that can be addressed by XP on a 64-bit platform is 16 GB. It is greater than that for a 32-bit platform.

My rule of thumb is, minimum of 256mb ram for any Windows OS.
Increase as needed for your particular apps. ;)

But at what point, no matter what you are doing does it become too much. Like Win 98 actually takes a performance hit at a certain point. Does Win XP have that problem?

I doubt that you'll ever have room for that much ram on your m/board in the first place! :)
