My dad recently purchased an upgrade copy of windows xp and installed it. He needs to activate it within the allotted time. His cable internet goes through a gateway computer with a direct nic to nic connection using a crossover cable. When he attempts to activate windows it asks if he wants to do it normally or through a proxy server? My question is which way should he go about doing this?

not exactly sure of the setup, or the activation procedure, BUT, if you have internet access, then "normally" should work.

the crossover should have no affect; if you have connectivity, XP(or your OS) has no preferences. the functionality is at the physical layer of the network. If you can ping an external address(say yahoo.com) you're fine.

Ok so under the option you would just choose to activate it the default way and not through the proxy server is this correct?
