<< A friend of mine bought XP and installed it on one computer. He activated it with no problems. When he tried installing it on a second computer and tried to activate it he got an error message saying it has been activated on another computer and he coould not activate it on another computer.

The only way that could work on multiple computers is if that person is using some sort of activation crack program. If they are not activated one day it will not boot up. A fun time for no one. Better to install Win ME. ;)

You could install winxp on mutliple machines by calling them every few days and saying you installed new hardware so that they give you a activation code. I think eventually, on like the 4-5 machine they would start to get suspicious though. But if it's only 2-3 machines, you could do it easily.

Read this one person does nothing more than play games on his/her computer. What a waste of a computer! Then the idiocy of reformatting and reinstalling the OS every month is a super waste of time. I have a very fast running PC and its hard drive has not been reformatted in two years. I have many programs installed. I am running Win ME and it runs great 24/7.

The wierdo's who claim ME is not a good OS don't know what they are talking about.

As for XP activation it is actually cheating if you install XP on two or more computers from the same install CD. I guess it is mostly school children who attempt those type of things as mature persons are more legally minded. As you grow up you have to work for what you have. If you screw up you can lose it all. Kids do not have to work for it as mommy and daddy will pay for them.

I wasnt really sorry, just being cautious since it seems everyone is so jumpy around here... this place sometimes seems as if its an outlet for all the aggression the computer nerds cant express in real life.... either that, or its feeled with overly aggressive people, lol....

anyway, what was up with the rant about kids and mommy and daddy paying etc? what does that have to do with anything?

Also, ME does suck. It's total bloatware

"Read this one person does nothing more than play games on his/her computer. What a waste of a computer!"

hehe really dude I code, play games, and a few other stuff.....and no it's not a wast it is also use for seti for "TeAm Anandtech" and for
ECCp for "Living on the Legacy's". Cause of that I don't use it for much...I need the power for seti and eccp!

"Then the idiocy of reformatting and reinstalling the OS every month is a super waste of time."

When I had 98se i formated every 3 to 4 mths with my athlon pc....then i got rid of that via thing and went to intel PIII 1266mhz and never
formated the pc! I'm still testting out hardware and software with xp right now and is why i have yet too activate it....and it's also why I
been formatting it a lot!

W slave,

It has to do with if you work and pay for something yourself you will take better care of it. If it is given to you and paid for by daddy and mommy you have less regard for what you have. Like if you break it daddy or mommy will buy you a new one. But, if you had to work in order to pay for it the value to you is more than ten times more. Plus the proud feeling of paying for something yourself. :)

idox,

I defrag my HD about every two weeks. If I uninstall a program I run WinDoctor to help clean up what is left behind in the registry.
