If this is what you want, it would have been more effective to ask several people individually and decide from that. An open forum setting isn't exactly best suited to getting a straight answer about much of anything.

Think of all the applications that you want now, and also ones you may want.
None of that IMO junk. I just want it straight.

Some facts:
I like Linux.
I think you should build a computer and install Linux on it.
Or better yet. Buy a mac mini and install Debian on it.
Be unique, just like everybody else.
I win, you own me 50 bucks.
Depends where you are. In the US, this may be true, but in Australia, the gap is much less. Sure, Macs cost more here than in the US, but PC's cost more too. I priced a PC with similar specs to the iMac G5 1.6GHz, similar in that I couldn't find a GFX 5200 with only 64MB VRAM (closest was with 128MB), or a completely self contained case, and I found the iMac to only be AU$100 more, and with a student discount, the iMac was cheaper.Originally posted by: augen
For the most part you'll find that a Mac of roughly similar performance to a given PC config. will be significantly more expensive.
