Win NT or Win 2000 professional

I just want to get some idea on which I should install. All I want is a robust(no crash) OS without the problem I get from win95 or win98. This will be for my wife for work purposes and she doesn't play games or anything. All I need is a web browser, full micro office(97 or 2000) and acrobat to work on this OS. So what do you guys recommend for me to install?

Either one would work -- NT is probably a bit tougher for someone who's never played with it before, 2K is much more like 9x -- take into consideration your hardware: if what you have isn't completely 2K compatible, you'll have lots of headaches. NT is definitely a 'corporate' OS that would work very well with the software your wife needs to use; it's also not as resource-intensive as 2K. 2K is more user-friendly as long as your hardware is supported and of course, can run the software that she needs.

Like Ladi said, 2k is a "resource-hog." I would recommend a bare-minimum of 64MB RAM, with 128MB better & 256MB ideal.
 
Depends on what kind of hardware and resources you have on your PC... win2k requires more RAM than NT4, and some of the hardware may not work on win2k... So check these things out before you decide... But both OS will fit your requirements perfectly!
 
I found that a fully updated/patched NT 4.0 was a bit more stable and a bit less of a resource hog than 2k. However i like the feel of 2k more and i find it to be more than adequate for my needs.
 
thanks for all the advice, I went with win2000. I just hope the way it hogs resources and the way my wife leaves open a billion windows don't force me to upgrade the ram I only put in 128megs.
 
128 should be plenty if all she's doing is office apps, web browsing, and maibee simple games...As long as she's not too demanding, I doubt she'd notice anything...
