You must be a optimist, be being a pessimist looks at it like, WindowsME screwed something up again and Microsoft new it would happen so they added a extra program...

Using WinME for nearly one day was for me a reason to appreciate Win2k more than ever.
Hardly any BSOD's, sudden reboots, screwed up system files etc.

Although you may like the system restore function now, you'll hate it when it has filled all the free space on your HD with backup files.

if you can convince me that i can play madden 2001 ,halflife ,TFC, play my mp3s, hitman, project IGN, NBA 2001, use my SB live card,MY netgear NIC then maybe i would consider Windows 2000,as for now i spent 200.00 dollors for win me and i like it cause it works fine for me..some of you guys like to ridicule people for what OS we use,lay off, it has worked fine for me from the get go!If you dont like Me ,let it be...Elledan if thats the case about space ...i got money man..buy more hard drive space ,duh!!

Trust me, you want Win2k...

I can personally confirm that these programs work:

-Half-Life (TFC)
-Hitman
-Profect IGN
-Sblive works flawlessly
-you can play MP3's
-Netgear NIC works just fine

I'm not I sports person so I can't verify the other programs.

<< as for now i spent 200.00 dollors for win me >>

<< i got money man..buy more hard drive space ,duh!! >>

Heh... Heh... Then according to your philosophy, you can go out and spend $200 for Windows 2000. :)

Why buy win2000 if this OS is working fine for me? that would be a waste of my money,I understand that 2000 is good for you all,but iam HAPPY with what i got..so why change..im staying put untill whistler comes out..

If you're satisfied with what you got then stay put. Whistler will be based on the NT kernel though, so when in the future you upgrade think of this: 2000 was just as stable as Whistler, and was available way back when MGMorden told you 2000 was better than WinMe. You'll regret not having upgraded now. But to each his own . . .

well it obviously isn't working for you, as you stated when you said: "well i though to my self ,why not use good ole system restore again"

makes you wonder is it really worth the effort, if you have to do that every month or so to keep it running.

i made the move from win98 to win2k a couple of weeks ago, and have not turned back. i have had no problems whatsoever. using win2k actually makes you respect microsoft a little. the same couldn't be said while using win98.

btw, im using a netgear NIC with no probs.

pugh:

I am with you. I have WinME since it came out and it is flawless so far. I run many games: Unreal, UT, Half Life, Pharaoh,Star Craft, SimCity 3000 Unlimited,Dead Lock, Dead Lock 2, Need for Speed HS,Hard Truck 2,Trophy Bass 1,2,3.,Tribes, Starsiege, Mech Worriors, Delta Force 1&2, X-Wing Aliance, and more. I also run a cable modem,USB scanner with all the photo software, USB mouse, TV tunner, a half dozen website builder programs, IE 5.5, Netscape 4.5&6.0. I have had no problems with it. I run OC'ed as well. If you get the hard drive patch from Microsoft everything should work good. I ran Win98SE with all this stuff and it was a little less stable but still handled it ok. It is not always the OS that causes problems!!!

Of course not. It's the fact that the computer's powered on with that OS that causes problems. Otherwise 9x is harmless. :)

win2k absolutely sucks for video capturing
there seems to be no easy way to disable virtual memory alltogether if you try it will automatically make a 2mb swapfile
droped frames not to mention a horrible boot time and yes crashes

Dude, you should seriously look into buying OEM software. For the full version of Windows ME could be yours for around $95.00 and if you wanted a copy of Win2000 Pro Full Version, that goes for around $130.00 You must be crazy to spend $200 on software???? I only spent $60.00 on my 1GHz cpu!

I'm with ya'! I've run ME since the day it came out (actually even before....) and it's run flawlessly! No BSOD's, lock-ups etc. (unlike 98SE) at all, takes any software I throw at it (unlike Win2K) and is just a pleasure to run! Photo/Video is great with it, and although I've yet to use it, the back-up feature is nice peace of mind! You can't argue the fact that i can keep ME up 5 -6 days without a reboot and 98SE never made it past 3! I actually have 2K, 98SE, & Mandrake 7.2 loaded also (I have 4 30GB HD's) but 99% of the time I'm in ME because it's overall the best if you get a good install and figure everything! By the way.....Linux is fine.....but their software is, well, lacking big time so I believe it will soon be replaced by a Whistler BETA!

I actually tried to put forth an effort in making myself learn to like ME. I hated it. I tried Win2k and it was incredibly stable, but lacked support for a couple of my favorite games (Madden 2001, some other EA stuff) thus I've reverted back to 98SE, not *quite* as stable as Win2k, but damn near close for me.

well I have always run Windows 2000 on my Celeron 2 machine, and until recently I was running Windows ME on my Athlon (Main) PC. Until Windows ME went down in a blaze of glory :D
Then I installed 2000 on this machine and I'm not looking back.

Windows 2000 is the best version of Windows that I have ever used.

On the other hand my parents are running Windows ME on their computer (Celeron under system rigs) with no problems.
