win me...config.sys

i just installed win me recently...the issue is that i have a dos app that i desperately need to run...the issue comes in when i try to load it asks to set the files>20...when i open the config.sys it is empty...if i add files=25 lets say the program works...but everytime i restart the computer the config.sys file clears...i've tried all the fixes involving the registry and the system.ini...none of these work..so is there a way to keep ME from clearin the config.sys??..if not ne ideas how to fix this

Have you tried making the config.sys read only?

I just installed ME 3 days ago, so, I don't really know, worth a shot though.
