Win me and older 166

Parents have an older nec 166 with 48 meg ram. I have been having problems lately where it looses files, just locks up and looses numerous other files. I tried to put a new hard drive in but I think because of bios limitation it will only install a 20 gig in 10 2 gig paritions. Any suggestions to get this thing to run or should I retire it?
 
Go ahead and partition the hard drive then and reinstall ME. The 166 should be fine for WindowsME. I still have a couple of these old machines around the house as basic web, email and file servers. They work fine with ME or 2K.
