This is a contest to win the above system with free shipping to anywhere in the U.S.

I have been running SETI@Home for almost 3 years using my own resources without corporate help. I have bought and built all but three of the 23 systems that are crunching under my name. A few months back I renamed my account to TeAm M&M to acknowledge the help given me by David McOwen, who is hosting some of my systems. In the past 2.67 years I have been able to work my way to 506th place worldwide. But, I don't seem to be able to gain any more ground. I am hoping SETI 1 will be over soon and I would like to gain as much ground as possible before then. This is where the contest comes in.

We will run this contest for 30 days. The person who contributes the most CPU time during that 30-day period will win. Even if you have a slow computer you can win by consistently crunching with your machine, or machines, running 24x7.

Rules:
1..You may not divert resources from any other TA Distributed Computer project.
2..Total WUs for the contest must be at least 500.
3..If the total has not reached 500 at the end of 30 days,
... then we can continue the contest until that goal is reached.
....If all quite before 500 WU is reached then there is no winner.
4..If SETI 1 ends before the contest is over then the person
....with the most time contributed will win, in the case of a tie
....the highest WU count will win.
5..All submitted Work Units must be sent through my SETIQueue.
....It will be responsibe for keeping track of contest progress.
6..The contest will start March 31st, 2003 at 10:00 PM EST and run for entire month of April 2003.
7..WUs must be submitted using my ID, as explained in the instructions.
8..Send me your email address for instructions.

There are two other reasons I am doing this:

1. To help Team AnandTech to maintain 5th place worldwide. We have been getting our butts kicked recently and really need your help!
2. We are moving and need to get rid of some computers.

Link to SetiDriver.

/edit - backed up start time by 2 hours.
/edit2 - Clarified that WUs must be crunched under my ID to count towards the contest.
/edit 3 - Added link to SetiDriver since the one in my instructions is not working.
/edit 4 - Now that I'm home for the weekend I've been able to verify what is in the machine and have changed the specs listed above. It is better than I thought.

For the contest you would use my SETI ID, that is the trade off for the computer. So, you don't need to have the password to get involved. If you do remember the password you could join our TeAm and crunch under your own id.

Also, you have the other option of getting a new SETI ID as titanmiller suggested.

6..The contest will start March 31st, 2003 after 11:59 PM EST and for entire month of April 2003.

I may back the start time to 10:00 PM EST, to allow those on the east coast to still get a good night's rest!

Thanks for the bump! You could always assimilate some new boxes! :)

LeeTJ, With those two boxes you could do 10 to 14 WU/day depending on BIOS settings.

haha. I can play that game. If only the computer were given based on number of bumps... ;)

If I could assimilate more computers, I would. I have been working on convincing my friend at Sara Lee to create a silent install package for f@h and distribute it, but he doesn't want to lose his job for some reason. Though, one can dream of picking up 6500 desktops overnight....

Well, I sent out four copies of the instructions last night and the first contestant has connected! :) If any others are interested in winning the PC then PM me for the instructions.

/edit - For the WUs to count towards the contest you must use my SETI@Home ID to submit WUs. This is explained in installation instructions.

The person who connected this morning has the following machine name:

adsl-63-205-xxx-xx.dsl.lsan03.pacbell.net - some numbers removed for security. - It turned out to be kermalou, I still need to contact him.

To be counted in the contest you need to use my SETI ID. You joined and got a new SETI ID. If you wish to continue with your own ID that is fine. In order for your workunits to help TeamAnandtech, you must join the team. You can do so here. Simply enter your e-mail address and SETI@Home password. If you don't remember your SETI@Home password, then click the link on the Join Page for help! PM me if you need more help!
