A coworker's daughter's computer has this in it.

A quick yahoo and google search identified it as a nasty bit of spyware. I didn't click any of the links on google or yahoo.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I directed her to have her daughter create an account on this website, and ask any security related questions to either of you two. I hope you don't hate me to much for pointing a total security newbie to you.

That information confirms what I was able to dig up, I was just reluctant to click on any of the Google, or Yahoo links here at work, being that I didn't have a legitimate site on hand to cross check the information.

WinAntivirus typically ends up on your pc from a vundo trojan picked up from a popup, myspace, etc., and of course old versions of Sun Java that are exploited. They can display fake security alerts in the taskbar that claim you are infected to goad you into purchasing their crappy software. Smitfraudfix, roguefix, and rogueremover will typically kill the fake alert, and WinAntivirus if it's installed, but you'll need to run additional tools to get rid of the remaining malware that could be resident on the system. Thank you. I am pretty sure it was a myspace spawned infection.

We are just backing up all of her files, and wiping the disk. I am highly recommending she get Kaspersky, and definitely scan everything before she puts it back on the pc. I gave her a pretty quick and dirty list of how not to get in trouble again. If she follows even half of it, she will be like %500 more safe than her computer was.
