Win 98 shot down problem

hey yo! I had this problem once before and can not remember how to solve it. When shutting down the splash screen comes up "preparing to shutdown" and that is it! nothing more! When I power off and then restart windows does not run scan disk (as if shut down incorrectly) Can someone help? DFI K6BV3+/66 K6II+450 Voodoo3 3000

Thanks relayer, I remembered this morning about the "enable quick shutdown" in the msconfig advanced settings.So the problem is solved. I appreciate the link. i have Windows98 (not SE) There is some info on there I think will be useful.

I used to have a problem with Soundblaster's devldr program that would never end....but it never even let me get to the "preparing to shutdown" screen.
