i have win 98se 384mb ram on a 1000 mhz amd 133mhz bus
i have about 15 gigs of pictures i have taken over the years with my digital camera
i am trying to sort thru them and seperate them into different folders
after i have transfered about 5 folders ( 15 - 30 mb per folder ) my computer slows down
then after 3 or 4 more it really slows down ( can take 30 - 60 seconds to open one folder )
untill i restart my computer
any ideas ?

let me clarify it continues to run slow as far as opening or closing folders or transfering files
untill i restart it
i have tried letting it sit for 5 or 10 minutes to see if it would get better without restarting it+
but the only thing that helps is restarting

I think your running out of virtual memory on the HD. There?s a way to increase the space allocated on the HD for this, but you double it, you?ll still run out. I think there?s a way to clear it but maybe a re-boot is easiest.

Reboot is the best way.

You can try increasing you Virtual memory (set it to a number do not let windows decide hopw much you need)

I would seriouly look into upgading to win2K on that system and perhaps drop in a little more memory.
