After coming off the net my desktop froze up.I then rebooted,but instead of going into windows the computer now boots to a c prompt with a message saying cannot run this program in dos mode.At the c prompt i change dir to c:\windows and type win and im back into windows again.Now at the same time my screen is randomly surging.I havent played with any settings or downloaded anything in weeks.What the hell just happened to me here?

Hey KGBMAN,

I restored the registry,then fixed it,then cleaned it.I also ran a virus scan and that came up clean.I then reinstalled windows,and that didnt help either.Ive been rooting around at microsoft for a couple of hours now,and cant find anything there either.Thanks for answering the post though.

Hmm, same thing happened to a friend of mine. Didn't do anything wrong, but after his computer froze it would go to the c: prompt. All we did was add "win" (w/o quotes) to the end of the autoexec.bat file and it worked like a charm. Hope this helps.

Here is one more thing to look at. In your root directory, there is a hidden file called MSDOS.sys which contains some boot info.

Yor should look something like:
[Paths]
WinDir=C:\WINDOWS
WinBootDir=C:\WINDOWS
HostWinBootDrv=C

[Options]
BootMulti=1
BootGUI=1

This file may be corrupted. Hope this helps.

Hey GreenGecko,

I've totally rebuilt that file too.Just to let you guys know where i'm at on this thing,i'm on my third post with microsoft support and they cant seem to be able to resolve it either.
