Win 95 + 98 pure 32bit code?

I need help settling an arguement between me and my friend.


I believe that Windows 95 + Windows 98 is 32bit w/ some 16bit code embedded.

My friend believes that Windows 95 + Windows 98 is pure 32bit.


I would like to know who is correct? Can anyone point me to any URL's with some facts? Thanks

Win95 and Win98 still contain legacy 16-bit code.

Just look at the 3 core executables...there's a 16-bit version and a 32-bit version:

GDI.EXE (16-bit) and GDI32.dll (32-bit)
USER.EXE (16-bit) and USER32.dll (32-bit)
KRNL386.EXE (16-bit) and KERNAL32.dll (32-bit).

Still skeptical? Run Microsoft System Information (MSINFO32.EXE). Click on Software Environment, and then 16-bit Modules loaded. Just about all of the Modules listed are core items.
 
Windows is a 32-bit GUI for a 16-bit OS first built for 8-bit computers on a 4-bit computer by a 2-bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition.
