Win 8.1 Everything Super Laggy

radtechtips

I'm running Win 8.1 and I installed Minecraft and was playing with a friend when everything went down the drain. Now everything is super laggy. It takes 2-3 seconds for mouse click to do anything. System specs are:

3570k
7950
16gb Vengence
240gb Corsair
2tb Seagate

The CPU is running turbo(~4.1ghz, up from 3.4ghz), while at about 30% load. No programs or processes look out of the ordinary.

Once every 5-10 minutes it will go back to normal, and everything feels normal. No clue whats up with this.

Any idea whats causing this?

Ok. I ran AVG and Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes returned some malicious files but I removed them. AVG was negative.

Problem is still ocuring. It seems that when I click something it won't draw the new screen until I unfocus and then focus it.

Do we know about yr PSU?

I might run SMART diagnosis on yr drives and see what comes up.

I would also check yr temps.

I might also uninstall Minecraft and see what happens.

PS: Which drive were you in when the laggy started?

If you have any files that you don't want to loose, I'd recommend trying to back them up now in the event you are having a hardware failure.

Is your SSD firmware up to date?

You might also run the SFC /SCANNOW command from an elevated command prompt to check your system files for corruption. It also might not be a bad idea to run an offline hard drive diagnostic as well using a manufacturer utility.

Yes, that would be better than SMART diagnostics for sure. I thought SMART would be immediate and less stressful and show some issues.

Ok. So I changed my mouse and it's not that. HDD passed all Seagates tests.

The thing is, everything was fine till I downloaded the Seagate utility, which goes to the HDD. Then it started lagging. I'm gonna disconnect it and see what happen

Edit: SSD firmware is up to date. No lag w/o hd

I am confused. U only recently did the Seagate diagnostics, yes? The system was lagging before that I thought re yr original post.

Pls clarify.

We may have a winner. I worked on a PC on which the HD passed all the tests, but ran like crap. Sometimes you just gotta go with your gut.

Nvr mnd. Still lagging. This is so frustrating. I did notice one process, system interupts, using 100% cpu. And desktop windows manager is using 10% with nothing open

Wow! See, I find that scary. I run WD diagnostics and I BELIEVE THE RESULTS.🙁 tho, I just run it prophylactically when nothing is wrong.

I just learned something huge.....the OP has good instincts!!!

Yay, Ketchup79!

OK, what cards (PCI, PCI-E, etc) do you have on the PC?

Also, what drives are you using for you devices (drivers of CD, latest on the site, etc)?

What motherboard do you have? and what BIOS is on it?

My 7950, a tplink pci wifi card. That's it. All drivers are updated afaik. It's an Asus p8z77-vlk
