So for a long time my Windows Update has been 'stuck'. It always shows I have these important updates:
  • Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 x64-based Systems
  • Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2871997)
  • Security Update for Windows 7 x64-based Systems (KB2872339)
  • Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2882822)

Every time I attempt to download/install them they fail to install and go back into the "Important Updates" section to be downloaded/installed again.

I don't remember the exact error message, though I can try installing again to get it.

EDIT: Ok, so each time it says 3 updates succeeded while 1 failed, the one being:
Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 x64-based Systems
Error found: Code 9C57 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

However, whenever I restart and go back to Windows Update, those 3 that it said 'succeeded' are back in there.

One thing to check is that your date and time are set correctly in Windows. LOL, I have had that issue in the past.

Hate to say it, when you get into corrupted files, the chances are great your problem is unfixable short of a complete fresh install of Windows 7. I've spent many hours on several machines trying to get Windows Update to start working again, and it almost always ends up the same - either live with incomplete updates, or reinstall the OS.
