When I upgraded from Win XP why wasn't I able to use a 64 Bit install?

It comes with 2 disks but I don't think you can do a clean install. The XP software was 32 bit.

Any "upgrade" from XP to Win7 must be a clean install. If you have a Win7 x64 Install DVD, you can install x64. Any "upgrade" from x32 to x64 (of any Windows OS) must be a clean install.

Long story short is he has to do a clean install no matter what. If he has a 64bit disk, use that. If he only has the 32bit disk, then he has to use that.

I upgraded from winXP 32 to win7 x64 no problem. I juts put in the 64-bit disc, and it checked for an old windows installation and installed win7 x64. (Clean Install)
