Win 7 permissions problem??

Hello,

I am the sole user of my computer, admin and everything. I have my desktop and all my documents stored on a seperate partition of my hard drive. When I open a program like paint, it won't let me save to my desktop because I don't have permissions. I tried changing the properties->security but all of the profiles exept "USERS" have full control. Any other setting I need to change? Thanks
 
I had this problem, I can tell you my fix but don't know if it will work for you. All I had to do was open an Explorer window and navigate to the documents folder. When you try double clicking on the documents folder you will get a dialog box asking for permission. Click through to allow permission. You will never get this dialog again and you can now save to this folder. Very strange problem indeed, I'm fairly sure it has something to do with storing your Documents folder on a separate partition/drive. I had to do the same thing with my music, pictures and videos folders.
 
I don't think you did the "Take Ownership" bit. First, you have to download and install a file and it changes the registry. Then any time you right clock on a folder, "Take Ownership" is a menu item. When you do that, you cannot be denied access.

That's exactly what I did, after I did the take ownership the command prompt popped up for 2 seconds. The screenshot I posted is after I took ownership of the folder.
 
It sounds like the ownership didn't take, or that some permissions on the folders have been removed. You could try posting to the official Windows 7 RC Support Forum located here:

They could help sort you out. Chances are something like this has already been answered over there too.

OMG...that is so cool! Thanks!

Win 7 permissions have been driving me crazy. I have 4 hds, many partitions, Win 7 kept games from saving stuff, I couldn't write ID tags, etc until I manually messed with permissions on folders. This one click makes it faster and easier.
