What do you mean? Your question isn't overly clear....

Not in w7, that would be selecting view by small/large icons.

there's only 8 icons and those 8 provide very minimal access to many usefull features of 7!

But if i install and run 'Vista Start menu' and go to its control panel i then have access to 48 icons with all the features!

can these same features be active/shown without having to install a program created by someone else ?

Top right corner of the control panel you will see a little dropdown that says "View by: category", change this to "View by: large icons"

i never would have thought it would show that, but now they are all there, i had pulled that down but i figured large icons ment large icons, not show all.

Its two different view sets. View by Category groups the entire list into the small buckets and each setting seen when viewed by small or large icons are subsets of these grouped Categories

While still in Category view, select the System and Security, you will be presented all actions under that group and notice that you can navigate the rest of the groups on the left taskbar

I noticed one inconsistency with Category view, the items are not sorted by name

yep its all there now, this is looking good, maybe soon ill get the hang of it.
