I have just installed Win2000 Adv. Server and I am having trouble getting VPN to work.

Can anyone give me some inital setup help or steps to take.

Here is my setup:

I have the eth interface of the 2k server hooked up to my router that has a 10.x.x.x address. It will be just one client connecting to it (just me)

Do I have to have 2 ehernet interfaces for VPN? I am having issues with the RRAS config.

Any help would be fantasic.

Try using Terminal Service and you do not need to have 2 nics just one will be fine. Have you setup your DHCP or did you set RAS policy for access

I am sorry for the newb-ness with VPN stuff... :)

Here is what I am doing:

1. Open RRAS
2. Right click on server and click on 'Config. and Enable RRAS'
3. I go through the Wizard and select...

a. VPN Server
b. 'yes all of these protocols are on this list'
c. I do not select 'all unauth. access for all remote clients'
d. Then I am presented with a list of the NICs in the machine. It wants me to select the one with the net connection. I have selected the one that the machine uses (there is another one, but there is no cable into it)

One time when I did this, I lost all net access... no ping, no DNS. If I select the second NIC, it doesn't do this.

e. I select, 'Automatically. DHCP to assign addresses'
f. 'No, i dont want to use RADIUS'
g. then I am finshed the Wizard.

Where do I go from here? I know that I must port forward... but I am unable to connect even within the network. I have enabled access for the user as well.

I am using a MAC OSX 10.3.6 client if that makes a difference.

The Mac OS 10 should not make a difference is your server runing DHCP or is your router you need to disable one of them. I prefer to disable the router an use static IP. Then disable RRAS by right clicking your computer. Repeat your steps again

Know are the server and your client the only one on the network cause you gave a 10.x.x.x address if there are other DHCP servers this could cause conflicts and also check your event veiwer to see if it has come upwith any errors

There is only one DHCP server on the network for sure. Right now I have the router doign that (I will get the 2k box to do it after it is upp and running)

The VPN client doesnt even connect to the server at all. Nothing.

And right now there is no net access after I enabled RRAS on the eth interface.
