I have a question about Win 2K my roomate is runnin Win 2K Pro SP2 edition and lately after he restarts and upens up a folder he gets a error that says
"Program error"
"explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows you will need to restart the program"
"an error log is being created"

it only does this once whe you first open a folder up after a restart then it works fine. we have tried using the repair function of IE 6 and off of the win 2k disk. and its still dooin it. was wounderin if any of you guies might know whats up and how to fix it
 
it could be a number of things. i suggest a format and clean install. anytime you have problems with explorer.exe its big trouble.
 
I see it once every few weeks when w2k boots into desktop, but desktop reappears and all is fine. As long as everything is working OK, I wouldn't take stringent measures.
 
i'm not sure if you can re-install SP2 over itself (probably not), try a repair install of win2k, but the error you're giving is an extremely general error and could be a billion things really.
 
Have you checked the event log for possible problems?

Start->Settings->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Event Viewer
 
You can install SP2 over itself no problem.

The nagging question is: what changes did your roommate make to his machine between the time there was no error and the time the errors started happening? 🙂

If he tells you "nothing changed," he's lying to you.
