In win98 I was able to do this.
Multiple IPs on one NIC

I would like to know how I can set this up for win2k so that I can have my DHCP assigned cable modem ip, and my local 192.168.xxx.xxx ip.

My other question: When accessing my 98 box it was slow whenever I tried to access network drives, once again in win98 there are no problems.

Any information would be nice for when I make the switch back to 2k as my main os.

w2k tcp/ip configuration allows for adding additional IP addresses in the Advanced configuration menu. However, all must be on different subnets, and none may be DHCP assigned (must be static).

I'd prefer to have one that gets auto assigned by DHCP, but I could just force it and if I lost my ip manually hunt.

Any ideas on my other problem?
Mapped drives tend to cause explorer lockings if the other computer is offline under win98 (might be different in win2k)

The slowness in accessing the other drives with the network (computers near me) is really quite annoying, it could possibly be something improperly setup in 2k though.

FYI, this is called multinetting. Having multiple IP subnets on the same network is bad mojo no matter which way you slice it and is highly discouraged. The number of problems and general "notrightedness" caused by multinetting means...just don't do it.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish by this? Maybe we can help you solve your problem.

This was the only way that I was able to establish a local tcp/ip network as well as both computers having their own cable modem ip. Granted if I used netbios over tcp/ip that would probably have the same effect, but be insecure.
