Just installed w2k pro. Is it suppose to shut down like 98 and winMe or do you have to hit on/off button to shut it down. I do have a ATX power supply.
 
Mine goes to a screen that says "Okay to shut down windows now" Anybody know whats causing that?
 
you probably got one of 'em old AT cases...it's suppose to do that. for the ATX cases you can just press the power button while Win2k is open and it'll save your settings and automatically shutdown for you🙂
 
I am using an ATX case. It shutdown on its own when I was running 98 and wimme. Now with w2k pro I get the "OK to shut down computer now" screen.
 
hello! it possible you have to flash your motherboard....
i had once the same problem with my an old "asus p2l97"
so when i flash the bios , that correct the problem....
 
I have the latest BIOS for my Asus P5A mobo. I am duel booting with Win98SE.
Just booted to win98se and it shutdown with no problems, so it is a w2k problem.
 
did you check for the latest version of the bios?
maybe there is beta version for your bios...
i dont think the problem is w2k
 
I enabled apm/power management stuff and went to shut off PC and all it did was reboot. Did not shutdown. When I have to manually shut it down it does give me the "OK to shutdown windows now" screen, so I quess it has to be a setting somewhere that Im missing. I went all throught the power management stuff. I do have an exclamation mark in device manager, when I remove it and reboots it says it needs to install the drivers for a device. I have no idea what it has found, all my devices are installed. maybe that has something to do with the shutdown problem. Anymore idea's



 
Endless possibilities with windows. What is the conflict for ? Sounds like a driver went bad or you deleted something associated with it. I've never heard of WIn2k giving you SHUT DOWN screen, mine has always bypassed that and went directly to shutdown automatically.


 
my win2k installation on a supermicro p6dgs dual processor system does the same thing. i chased it a while and it ended up being a motherboard issue. even with the latest bios, i think that it's something in the hardware.
 
In Device Manager, under Computer, does it say ACPI or standard? I think there might be your answer. Do a search for threads related to this if it doesn't say acpi. Here's some possible help or maybe here.
