Win 2000 Question

A friend of mine has XP Pro on her computer which has to be reinstalled, but unfortunately, has lost the disc which came with the computer. Her brother has a copy of Win 2000. Question is this. If she installs the Win 2000..........will she be able to use the Microsoft site for updates without them knowing. I`m sure this question has been asked before. I say it won`t matter....she`s scared to do it.

Thanks for the replys. I think her mind is a little more at ease now. Yes Mikecel, I guess it is illegal. But immoral ?? Naaaaah.......she paid the price once for an operating system. It`s not like she`s a big time pirate here. Think of it this way too. How many times have all of us been driving on the highway a little late for work, and in a rush to get there, gone over the speed limit, knowing it was "illegal" ?? Possibly immoral also, but very few of us think think so.

She paid for a license of XP not Win2k. No matter which way you dice it promoting piracy is immoral. No she may not be a big time pirate but these are the types of activities that lead to things like Product Activation which so many people complain about. As a part time developer that hopes to sell software someday I take offense to people promoting piracy.

Call the computer manufacturer and inquire about getting a replacement CD.

I once had a dog, and his name was B-I-N-G-O!!!

I agree with Noggin, if you truly want to go on the straight and narrow.
