Not sure if this is a "hot deal" or not but I just found Windows 2000 professional for $139. The only catch is that they won't sell it by itself you will need to purchase something else with it. I called them to ask them if there was a price limit but the associate said no. So it looks like you could be a power cord and get Windows 2000 for that price.

Link

Also, they have a 6 reseller rating.

azazyel,

This is an oem version, not bad in itself, but not the regular retail box. Secondly, do a search on pricewatch.com for 'windows 2000 oem' and you'll find some better prices. Still have to check reseller ratings. Alot of crappy companies out there.

Mookie beat me to it. I know that directdeals.com usually has a great price for this. A couple of weeks ago, I paid $94.62 shipped for the full version (OEM of course).

Thanks for the tip. Now, I know what OEM is but what does it stand for?

Microsoft OEM rules dictate that any of their "OEM" OS's must be sold with a complete system. However, they are quite loose with their definition of a complete system. As such, you can buy a either a hard drive, CPU, or motherboard to qualify for purchase of a Microcrap OS. If you can get it with just CAT-5, great, b/c then it's on the vendor's heads. Just make sure to check it out first.

"Certificate of Authenticity" would be best shot at it. I bought the OEM version a year ago from them, and though a seperate certificate isn't included, the Microsoft laser hologram label is.

Damn kleborg. ;)

And to think that I sold my version of Windows 2000 Professional unopened full version for $100.00 because I couldn't find anyone interested.

Let me see if I understand this OEM stuff.

If:

  1. Online merchant offers a Windows OS as OEM but does not require me to purchase anything else.
  2. Online merchant does say elsewhere that it is up to me to comply with MS OEM rules.
  3. I purchase the OS and load it onto my newly assembled computer.

Have I complied with Microsoft OEM requirements?

Is my license which accompanies the OS in any way compromised?

Thanx

Here's another source link for $112. It's OEM and includes the COA (Certificate Of Authenticity). Shipping is usually less that $5 and you don't have to buy anything else. Lot's of folks (including me) have ordered the Norton Systemworks 2001 PRO for $15 + shipping from this place.

Just seeing who was paying attention (hehehe).

Seems like a lot of people need Windows 2000 CD. Why not start a group buy to lower the price!!

** EDIT **
Count me out, since I received the free copy from Microsoft contest. :)
