Is Willow Smith getting ready to whip curly red hair back and forth? Count on it, if her dad Will Smith gets his way.

The superstar is reportedly looking to redo the popular musical "Annie" with his 10-year-old daughter in the lead, reports Variety.

Willow's previous acting experience includes roles in "I Am Legend," "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl," "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" and "True Jackson, VP" - not to mention that she also has a hit record with last year's single "Whip My Hair."

Reps for the project wouldn't confirm whether the new "Annie" would be set in contemporary times and include original songs, although it's rumored that Jay-Z is working on the music (his 1998 tune "Hard Knock Life" included a chorus from the musical).

This isn't the first time Will has produced movies for his kids. He developed last year's "The Karate Kid" remake for his son Jaden.

Ok i wish the kids the best of luck. Glad that there father is willing to help them get started on this. BUT remaking annie? this is getting silly. can't he have something slightly original? instead he remakes 2 movies and has his kids in them. I really wish hollywood would fucking stop remaking movies or TV shows. its getting out of control.

i'm waiting for the Mr Ed movie. i'm sure that will kick ass.

Not sure I'm liking this idea or not?? She is a very talented little girl though as is her brother who I loved in Karate Kid. These kids are going to be as huge as their parents one day.

Really going out on a limb there. These kids are being promoted shamelessly by parents that are astoundingly rich with the subtlety of a typical boy band campaign. If they have real talent, enough already with the overexposure.

I thought he was terrible in Karate Kid. The only thing that was decent about that movie was Jackie Chan.

Thats a very polite way of saying exactly what I was thinking.
Will is the black version of Hilton. He's gonna end up ruining his kids lives.

I don't know anything about her, but Jaden did a very nice job the Karate Kid. He was pretty good.

What is the problem with a her playing the part because the original actor was white? I don't ever remember watching Annie, lol, but I am sure there was more to it than just the fact she was white.

Because Annie is a set, extremely well-known character. If she were black and Willow Smith were white I'd be making the same argument.

It's like making Mary Poppins black. Sure you can do it but it's not going to hold a candle to the original because everyone saw Mary Poppins as a kid and has a set image of her. It would be a lesser re-make and would be treated as such.

Its lesser cuz its a remake, not cuz she's black.

Sorry guys I am normally the angry conservative on these matters but I am gonna have to call racism here. Annie's defining characteristic is she's an orphan, nothing else. Its perfectly acceptable to changer her skin color, as it would be Mary Poppins or most others. The only time its inappropriate is when the character itself is a certain color. Like the king of england or something similar. Obviously it would be wrong to have blacks in Braveheart, just like it would be wrong to have a white Othello. His character is a Moor, thats actually a plot point. Its important to the story. And there were no blacks in Scotland until very recently. Annie is a generic, fictional character and in fact most of her character comes from the singing, not appearance.

My only beef is the chick in question probably can't act or sing. She's being shoehorned in cuz she's the daughter of a powerful celebrity. That he is black is NOT FUCKING RELEVANT!

You do realize this movie is aimed at kids? I'm going to have to imagine about 1% have ever seen Annie and actually know what she looks like. The parents taking the kids to see it will know "hay Annie's suppose to have red hair and freckles!" but the children going to see it won't know or care. And the 1% of kids who know what Annie looks like won't give 2 shits about this change, why? Because kids don't make a big deal out of shit like this. If the movie's good they will watch it, again and again (and again and again)

You're right, its racist because they're trying to make an iconic white person black, again

You really dont read posts do you, just search for key words and then go off with a rant?

I just said she's not iconic cuz she's white. Her character is an orphan, which can be any color. It doesnt fucking matter.
And even if what you were saying were true, its not like Will Smith bought up every copy of every Annie movie and comic book and burned them all and changed all online references to her being a pale redhead. If you dont like the new Annie dont watch her. Ditto Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Star Trek, Star Wars, Peter Pan, Tron, Robocop, Saved By The Bell, 90210, and motherfucking Bugs Bunny.

Nobody CHANGED a god damn thing. You guys really need to join the service for a few years and get the opportunity to pull your fucking heads out of the sand. Your attitudes about life are kinda disturbing. Way too much time in the soft, spoiled suburbs.
