"The sky was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel."

He and Bruce Sterling were responsible for the cyberpunk movement in SF literature in the mid '80s, but I sort of lost interest wth him after Mona Lisa Overdrive, turning my interest to much better authors (like David Gerrold and his "War Against the Chtorr" series).

ISWEAR!!! every time i go to B&N i look to see if his
new one is out... Why is it so freaking hard to find
publishing info on writers???

thanks nord1899!

thanks for mentioning that. i forgot that he had a new book.

i've read all of his older books, have not read the difference engine. they are all very good, not earth shattering for me too much (but maybe if i had read it 20 years ago it would have).

i found a book that had a collection of his short stories which was very good (burning chrome).

ive just started reading neal stephenson (snow crash, cryptonomicon), and his writing i think is much more amateurish, but fast paced and interesting to read. im fricking tired of when these authors incorporating japanese culture into their novels though (hackers running around with samurai swords and outfits? cheesy!).

Loved his first 3 novels (Neuromancer, Mona Lisa Overdrive, Count Zero) and Burning Chrome.
Went down hill fast from there though. Idoru really sucked. Virtual Light was indifferent. Just doesn't have the same edge & feel to it. But then, I've discovered my taste in books has changed alot, so I should reread em to see if they're still good 🙂

Stephenson...
Cryptinomicon rocks, but Snow Crash was really cheesy.

You know ... '24' kind of reminds me of the early Gibson novels. Not the tech or plot so much as the pace & atmosphere somehow.

Cryptonomicon is one of the best books i've ever read!
Just an amazing story... Neal Stephenson has another
good one The Diamond Age or A Young Ladie's Illustrated Primer
...highly reccomended - not as good as Crypto., but still a great
read.

...by the way, i believe Neal is due for a book too!

after quick Amazon search:

Quicksilver due September 2003 !!!!!!!!!
