It's just a catchy phrase that caught because it struck a perfect chord with a lot of people. Ironically, this is where Trump and Obama were similar. They were able to catch a segment of the population and rode them to victory.

But it's vague and what does "great" mean anyway?

It's going to be impossible since Trump's ideas are so off the wall, and he has the temperament of a dictator and a child. Unfortunately too many Republicans have equally bad ideas and prefer power over principle, and Democrats don't know how to put up a fight.

Trump has a Republican Congress, so they can do their thing without help of Democrats like me, and then the voters will decide it it's "great" or not so much in 2018 and 2020. I don't have high expectations, seeing how we tried it the Republican way under W and it didn't work out, but I am open to being surprised.

Is Trump still going to be Trump the self-idolizing megalomaniac who has a major problem with the GOP leadership who attempted to sabotage his run for office at every turn, or is he now going to kiss and make up with all of those Repubs who turned their backs on him? Are they now going to all of a sudden act like all of that really nasty exchanges the leadership had with him just never ever happened?

If Trump keeps up with his image as being "The Outsider" that's out to make yuge changes in DC, how is he going to do it when the GOP leadership literally hates his guts?

He may need the help of the Dems in Congress to have things his way, and that should be really interesting to see.

Very curious and awkward times are ahead the day Trump gets sworn in.

Hillary supporters have got to look on the bright side. Eight years of tearing Trump a new one day in and day out.

But related to the thread, Trump is going to have a rough time. Congress, lobbyists, the people that pay to have our government do their bidding for them are all going to be less than enthusiastic to work with him. But we couldn't continue down the path Obama created for the nation with the level of corruption a Hillary presidency would have added to the mix.

Obama was very conciliatory right after the elections and included many conservatives to important positions in his cabinet and advisors which was surprising but it he still faced years of headaches with budget sequestrations. I seriously Trump will do the same now that he is in the same position with a republican majority in congress and house like Obama in 2008.

Amen. The Vietnam War changed reporting from a desire to spread the truth to a crusade for far left politics. In this case that actually plays to our favor though, since they will watching Trump like a hawk. Unlike President Hillary, every Trump scandal won't automatically be "a big nothing burger." We may actually have a Fourth Estate speaking truth to power, rather than speaking for power.

I would tend to agree that media reporting is what has formed the left's opinions of the right. Journalist are taught how to research, find facts and whatnot, instead of the other team's tendency to just mouth off whatever feels good, like mexican immigrants are rapists*.

I also find the topic of this thread quite amusing, particularly the observation that trump's fans a lot more serious about his proposed positions than he is.

This is the problem. GOP majorities in Congress haven't amounted to any progress in their agenda because of infighting. Should that continue, which it appears it will, Trump's actual power will be somewhat limited. Maybe they'll get Obamacare repealed but their caucus doesn't appear to agree on much else at all let alone how to go about implementing specific policies.

In Trump's acceptance speech he called America a "great country". Job accomplished, he said it and "America is Great Again". No help needed I guess.

Trump isn't your typical republican. It will be interesting to see how well he works with his own party, let alone the democrats. I suspect we will see a doubling of executive orders from Obama's level because he will be unable to get his way.

We'll I dont expect we will see Trump supporting open borders especially when we are goling to "build a wall", but there needs to be some give and take. Maybe we can have open borders for LEGAL immigrants. We can also expect sanctions against sanctuary cities.

What I hope however is we do something about the national debt. We are $20T in the hole and are likely to default one day with continued unbridled spending. We need some fiscal discipline and reign in spending.

Bill Clinton worked with Republicans to balance the budget back in the 1990's. Maybe we can do that again.

Eh? Trumps plans are going to add trillions to our debt.
