Say the establishment pays you 1000$ every election not to vote. Will you take the offer?

They might as well do something like this. Voter turn out sucks most of the time...and it's not like "we the people" really have any real power in elections. WE get to vote for/against the candidates THEY choose for us...and I'm not sure election results are accurate anyway...they just tell us who won...whether they did or not. (Bush/Gore-Florida 2000 as an example)

Hell yes. Instant satisfaction over some drawn out horse-shit process that in the end we don't even have real control over? Sign me up.

Voting 3rd partying as a F.U. to the dem or repub is a waste. Gimme my money!!

Yeah, with the electoral college system, if you are say, a Republican living in California or a Democrat in Texas you may as well wipe your ass with your ballet because a fuck load of good it's going to do you. May as well take the $$$ in that case.

I voted 3rd party the last couple times. Enough are doing it now it almost meets the requirement that the 3rd part candidate gets in the ballot automatically now. Let alone matching money would be great if more voted 3rd party.

Speaking of Third Party....Drew Curtis (the guy who owns Fark) is making a 3rd party run at Governor of Kentucky. Will be interesting to see how that goes.

what are the chances of going to a parliamentary system?

Our politicians are far too cowardly--much less ignorant of the actual issues beyond what their corporate handlers pay them to say--to defend their platforms against daily and direct attacks from their peers, as the Brits do.

Would never happen. (assuming a hypothetical US parliament would follow the exact same model)

outside of the Presidential election, because as some have stated with the Electoral College system it's largely pointless in many states, there is still a very real impact voting has on local government.

Maybe, but the electoral college figures in a very small percentage of what you might vote on ;)

To answer the question...no, and certainly not for such a paltry amount. I sometimes choose not to vote because I know it is irrelevant (my area's political views usually mirror mine so whether the candidate wins by 40 points or 40.0000001 points makes no difference) but I recognize the importance of the citizenry exercising its duty in voting.

Everybody keeps telling me I am throwing my vote away anyhow, so why not? I would only take it to not vote for federal stuff though. If I had to give up voting for local issues I wouldn't even consider it.

As I never vote since my vote is meaningless and since every vote is bought anyway, hell yes. I'd appreciate the honesty involved in paying me directly rather than using the money to buy fake ads saying what they think I want to hear.

I don't vote anyway. May as well get some cash for not voting. Well, actually, I do sometimes vote in local elections.

Damn there's a lot of non voters in here. I'm surprised honestly.

at the local level people you vote for lie, and then at the national level all I see are dysfunction/executive orders/vetoes.

Yeah, I can see that. But don't you vote for things like school levies and other local issues? Those are the things I care most about I guess.
