Seems year to year I do better without the shot. Despite what some late-night ATOT regulars might say, I am not a pussy.
I spent the first 18 years of my life in Minnesota. I got almost every germ and bug in the known world shoved into my system on a regular basis. I dont have to worry about too much now. On average I get sick once every two years, and it only lasts a week at a time.
I think I'll just let my immune system do what its supposed to.

That's what you get for drinking to much at the local gay bar.

My mother is a damn nutt with this kind of stuff. She belongs in a padded room. OMG the ski is falling and we're all going to die! You know.. the types that live in fear 24/7.

got my regular flu shot yesterday and will get the H1N1 shot as soon as they announce they're ready to give
it at my job🙂

Does she live under a chair lift? 😛

my wife got the flu shot the other day. She spent the next two days shivering and feverish. Hot then cold, hot then cold. Her entire body ached and she was really weak. Slight arm pain my ass.

no thanks!

22 healthy (i think) male here.

Saving it for them would be worthless considering it is your category most at risk. 😉

I haven't decided if I'll be getting that. Regular flu shot I never get, and won't. H1N1 is something I must ponder.

If I'm going to get the bug, I hope it's like... tomorrow. I would rather get it in the beginning of the school quarter than later when it'll be hell to make up lost time.

And if I survive, I'd rather have earned immunity from the live virus. Makes my immune system at least prove it's capable of keeping me alive on its own, thus being worthy of passing on to future kids of my own. 😉

Though my immune system makes me wonder - my sinuses are terrible, and I get either the flu of a sinus infection at least once a year. Had both once, alternated from a sinus infection, turned into flu, and rebounded the sinus infection into full swing. Oh that was a hell-filled 6 weeks.
And yes, I know the difference between the flu and a sinus infection. However, without having been tested, I cannot guarantee it was influenza or some other bug causing flu-like symptoms. I do get those symptoms at least once every other year. And some other little things that make me wonder what state of health my body really is in, but can't say until my body is pushed to the edge I guess.

in short - still undecided about H1N1 vaccine.

so you get the flu shot and ignore another influenza strain? makes a lot of sense. 😛

At best, it ends up being the same thing as other influenza strains. Unlikely, but like I said, at best. 😛

Regardless, isn't getting the flu shot to help try and not get the flu? What if you get the flu? Sure, you thus know it's H1N1 (or some other strain not expected to be common this flu season), but that negates the whole point of getting the flu vaccine.

Unless of course, you are like... 60 or 70, then by all means get the seasonal shot and ignore H1N1 - not an at-risk group for H1N1 (though technically, it'd react in your body the same as a normal influenza strain if you are elderly, thus posing the same risks regular flu does in the end).

No.

I had never got a flu shot until college when our athletic dept demanded it. Every year I would come down with an awful cold. Once I got out of school i didnt get a flu shot and had relatively mild colds once a winter. But then I got diagnosed with athletic asthma and got a flu shot. Again I got a cold over the winter that was so bad I was contemplating going to the emergency room. I had so much plem in my throat I could hard breath, got light headed, and even choked a couple of time. That was 3 years ago. I havent had a flu shot since and have managed to not even catch a cold over that time period as well.

Perhaps the fear mongers are actually having an effect on me for once as I haven't actually bothered to do any research yet. It seems the h1n1 vaccine carries a higher risk than the regular vaccine and I sort of don't feel like being a guinea pig here. Plus I still feel the whole "swine flu pandemic" is being blown way out of proportion.

Ah fuck, now I read crap like this: WHO probes study seasonal shot may raise H1N1 risk http://www.reuters.com/article/africaCrisis/idUSWEA2303

😕

nope, not in the the high risk group. I also remember to wash my hands when I have been outside my home, like out shopping. Haven't had the flu in years since I started.

Yeah, because being in college, where germs can spread like wild-fire has nothing to do with getting sick and the flu shot is the cause of your colds later in the winter

Yea, I'll probably get one, don't usually get them, but it's so easy and convenient to get one nowadays that I may actually go and get it done. (note, I work for a company that has like 15,000 qualified people doing the flu shots, so it may be even less of a hassle for me.)

Please provide scientific evidence to support your fear mongering.

Specifically, what are the risks that you talk of?

Given that the pharmaceutical industry is heavily regulated why do you think the government would approve an unsafe vaccine?

Nope. Havent had one since I was a youth. Maybe the navy gave me some, I don't know.
Bravo for orchestrating that r-e-p-o-s-t, never gets old.

That's the thing, there isn't any evidence yet to say it's safe or not. The original h1n1 was linked with an increase in GBS and there are concerns the new vaccine will too. I've only seen one study and it was on 600 children with no side effects. Sounds good, but 600 is a tiny sample.

Also, that third line is laughable. Most industries are heavily regulated and shit still gets through.
