Will you ever catch up?

Much as I love games, I really don't think I will ever make it through everything I actually want to play. Ever.

Between getting caught up in MMO after MMO and other multiplayer games and games getting bigger and deeper and indie production becoming more and more impressive, I think it's a losing battle 🙁

Off the top of my head I've got dozens on Steam I'd love to play through not to mention a few titles on almost every system dating back to the NES (the PSX especially, I think playing everything I missed on there alone would take ages) that I'd like to experience as well as games that I've beaten that I even want to replay now that I'm older and wiser.

And by the time I'm retired there'll be 40+ years more to catch up on. And then everyone will tell me I'm too old to play anyway D:

I almost fell into this trap with a few bargain priced games on Steam, but I caught myself and basically cut ties with Steam. Now I really only ever play Starcraft II and Age of Empires II (good ole' LAN parties). My wallet is gaining weight now. 😉

I do a reasonable job of staying caught up but there are a lot of games I haven't played and want too still. I sometimes hate the fact that I really don't dislike any genre and am very open to trying a game out lol. Due to this I do own/play more games then an average gamer alone. MMO's definitely are a bane of my gaming time too as I am pretty much always playing since since the original EQ.

Probably not and that's ok with me. I like to try new things and eventually do get around to finishing some games from time to time.

I'm stocking up right now because the future of gaming is riddled with DRM out the ass and DLC to the extreme anyway. I'm already fed up with the current state of the industry and I'm severely slowing down my purchasing of any new games due to my jadedness with it all. Now that I think about it, I might actually play through everything I currently have after all at some point.

I've got the same problem. My WoW sub is still active for a couple weeks. In the last month and a half or so, I've purchased the Quakecon pack, BFBC2, Batman: AA, Splinter Cell Conviction, and Grid. I also got DiRT 3 and Shogun 2 with my video card upgrade. Did I also mention that I've had Orange Box since release day and still haven't played through HL2: Episode 2 or Portal.

I'm a little behind =)

😱

Stop right there. Drop everything and play Portal. Right this instant.

I have 25+ games that I own and want to play but haven't made it to yet, and I keep buying more.

It's nice having backlogs in multiple genres, though I sometimes think it would be nice to take a year off from work to get caught up.

Instead of thinking I'll never catch up, I just keep raising my standards of what's worth my time. Instead of saying "I'll never finish Crysis 1 with everything else I need to play", I'm thinking "Crysis 1 isn't good enough to stop me from playing everything else". So now I don't feel as bad for skipping games I paid for because my rationale says I wouldn't get as much enjoyment out of some games.

Nah, I get caught up in games for extended periods so everything else goes by the wayside. It seems I'm caught up in LOTRO again, so now that is taking my time even though I have a bunch of games from ages ago that I have not even started. :hmm:

This pretty much nails it.

Between Indies and GOG, I've got a huge backlog of DRM-Free material.
I've haven't acquired a DRM'd game in ages, and don't plan too as long as Companies think abusing their customers is good business.

I will never catch up.

Back during the steam christmas - new years sale of 2009 - 2010, I bought a couple of game packs, and have not finished 1/4 of the games that I bought.

Then came along the borderlands expansions on sale at steam.

Metro2033 sale

Fallout new vegas on sale.

Portal 2

Its like every few months something goes on sale that I want, but I never find the time to play the game. I have been playing left 4 dead 2 for the past 18 months, so that leaves little time for other stuff.

No. =( I have a solid 12-15 titles I've bought that are "must-plays" on my list still.

That, compounded with a loaded Fall/Winter for game releases... fml.

I blame the occasional MMO, and strategy games that have almost infinite replay value.

Maybe eventually, I've bought a lot recently and have had almost no time to game, and then my computer died. But, my new computer is now up and running and my primary partner is starting classes again at the end of this month, so I should be spending some quality time with my Steam library again soon. So, hopefully by the time the holiday sale comes along I'll be caught up.

Edit: Unless D3 comes out. Then all bets are off.

A few years ago I used to play all the best games that came out, and even a few on the 360. Ever since having two kids in the last 2.5 years I've only had time to play 2 computer games, no shit. GTA4 and Torchlight. I've been so busy with the kids and a home renovation. The sad thing is I've upgraded my PC 3x in the 2.5 years with plans to play all my backlog and I never get to do it.

I am waaaay caught up on the games I know I want to play. (I think the last PC game I picked up for myself was CoD4.) The question is the games I don't know if I want to play. I've had Black and White 2 and Command and Conquer: Generals sitting here for years (part of a strategy pack) and I don't know if I want to install them. I don't know what kind of gameplay the former has, and as for the latter, after Total Annihilation, Command and Conquer (and Tiberian Sun), Homeworld, AoE 1+2, Starcraft, Warcraft 2+3, and Dawn of War, I'm not sure I can be arsed to pick up another RTS.
