Right at the top:

This speedy revolution, a Stanford economist says, will be driven by technology, not climate policies — and while his timing may be off a few years, there is little doubt about the direction

Which?

My car is one of those but it’s 24 years old
2016 lexus GS-F with 45k miles. Love this thing. Compromise for my wife to be able to drive it (lol). I wanted an integra type s but dealers are asking insane prices for it ( and civic type r) and my wife didn't want me to spend 60k on a car she can't drive (manual).. the gsf cost 45k

My wife doesn’t care enough and just doesn’t drive my car despite a handful of lessons that she did fine at. But it’s my car so I pick it :)

Not gonna miss an opportunity to show off these beauts. the TSX on the right side is an 08 w/ 6MT that i've put some jdm parts on :). Bought this thing as it was about to go to the scrap yard due to a fried clutch and had some worn interior parts and the previous owner didnt want to deal with it. Learned alot DIY'ing everything on this car and I know i would immediately regret getting rid of it. it's been a solid DD at 210K miles.
i plan on DDing this in the winter as the GS-F came with Michelin PS4S summer tires and dont plan on changing them out.

I've been waiting for "The Speedy Revolution" since around 2004 -- twenty years waiting.

Thus I've maintained, renewed and restored my 30-year-old orphaned Trooper SUV, eventually hoping to catch the wave of cheaper electric vehicles after the slow transition to hybrid, plug-in hybrid and full EV. I count the number of vehicles on the highway that don't have conventional exhaust pipes.

And -- I wait.

back on topic- there are some great EV Options out there right now and prices are just getting cheaper.
My buddy has been nothing but happy with his Chevy Bolt. they can be found sub 20K now. Hyundai / Kia options are in the 20's now too i think.

If I needed to replace my vehicle, absolutely I'd go electric.
(Un?) Fortunately, my little Mazda3 is rocking just fine.

I think we would replace our family hauler with an EV. for all those short trips to kid events, groceries, etc. the NVH cant be beat and range anxiety shouldn't be an issue for us. our "road trips" consist of driving to the jersey shore which is about 60 miles one way so any EV on the market can handle that. I'm already planning to wire a 240 into my garage.

I'm hoping to not have to replace either vehicle in this decade. If I do, an electric is more likely than not.

I think we're all on the same wavelength with this. I've got a luncheon meet-up with a friend in two hours, to which I'll drive my old Trooper. Right now, I'm going to go out and warm it up, and while I do that, I'll download to the Trooper's Android tablet the four new Miles Davis albums I bought through Amazon a few days ago. The "Tunes" are one reason I don't want to give up the old gas-guzzler anytime soon.

Someone mentioned the Chevy Bolt, and I'll look into that. My worst case option is a three-year-plus-old low-miles Prius. But I'm just freaking spoiled with my 30-year-old great-running SUV. At least while gasoline at COSTCO is less than $4/gal.

Y'all will appreciate my brevity with this, after posting lengthy threads for the last five-plus years on my 95-Trooper experience: I FREAKING LOVE THIS OLD CAR! [And the concert hall I built into it since 2019.] :D

Electric tractors ain't happening. Maybe some of the smaller homeowner type tractors like mine, but no buzz box will ever replace the 100HP + behemoths that roam the fields of Big Agriculture.

Case IH Quadtrac 620 Specifications & Technical Data (2014-2020 ...

The 2014 Case 620 Quadratrac was 620HP and retailed for $300,000

They'll run all day on a tank of diesel and can be refueled in the field far from any roads.

Purchased a 1992 Jeep Wrangler two weeks ago. I'll be sticking with gas for as long as I can buy fuel.

I need to start thinking about replacing my truck as my mechanic said I really shouldn't put more money into it, and I'm starting to see that myself, the rust is just so bad now. Will be going gas for my next one. I'd like an EV but I just can't justify the cost. Even the gas vehicles are insane expensive now if buying new. I will stick with buying used. I sometimes dream of buying new and try to see if I could make the payments work once the mortgage is paid off, but that's a big chunk of money to put towards something that won't last my life time.

I don't see how ev is going to work for your off grid life.

Bruh...How in the hell are you going to refine oil pure enough to run a gasoline powered engine off grid? With an EV you got solar or wind which generates electricity.
