I plan to build two systems. A low end budget AM2 3800 X2 once prices drop and a E6600 once there is a decent selection of mobos to go with them.

Hmmm... after seeing the latest reviews that E6300 is looking more appealing to me than the E6600. It can do almost 3GHz (hair better than the stock E6600) on air cooling. The limitations doesnt seem to be with the chips but with the current mobos availble. Get E6600 performance for $183. I like that! Will have to see what happens to AMD prices first. Sadly Conroe mobos with SLI wont start hitting the market till August/September supposedly.

Building when prices drop, old system P4 2.8 Asus P4P800SE ATI X850XT PE AGP. Going to stuff listed below.

Asus A8R32 MVP.
AMD 4600+ or close to.
X1900XT already here.

The sooner the prices drop the happier I am, cause its time to get to PCI-E and I love building new toys.

I don't think so...my X2 is still running smooth and I have yet to loose sleep over any "performance" gains from the new Intels...

I'm probably going to have to get an X2 once the prices drop, to tide me over until the E4200/4300.

I voted E6600, *BUT* I could change that to an E6300 if there is a chipset that is capable of consistent 450MHz+ bus speeds. 450 x 8 = 3.6GHz, which would be considered a decent overclock on air, especially for a low end E6300.

The only thing limiting E6300 popularity is the chipset FSB limitation problem, if that limitation disappears then E6300 popularity would soar, similar to the P4 1.6A or 2.4C days.
