Well the thing is that these types of games are not as popular as they used to be. People want their games to be fast paced with lots of shooting
Actually, that's my problem with FFXIII. It's appealing to the super fast high action junkies. The battle system is mostly just numbers flying around because it looks "cooler". Virtually every attack from both the enemy and player's party is multi hitting and the numbers flash very quickly and it's hard to keep track of it. This annoys me because it limits my ability to select the highest damaging moves. For example, which is higher damaging? 876+1020+927+1026+1109 or 1659+1876+1943? Shit like this happens in this game.
You'll have to figure it out in about 1 second. Not only that, but the numbers don't just flash fast, but also start lower and scroll up. So in total you have an inhuman amount of time to figure out what is happening. You cannot possibly approach the game from a strategic point of view. You just do the move you think is doing the most damage, but you cannot possibly know. I prefer a thinking man's RPG (oh, this attack is about 10% stronger against these types of enemies - I'll do that instead) compared to NUMBERS NUMBERS NUMBERS LOOK AT THE NUMBERS FLASHING SO FAST ISN'T THIS GAME COOOOL FOR YOU KIDS THAT ARE BORED BY RPGS? NUMBERS!!!!
It's embarrassing. I wouldn't want to be seen playing this piece of crap. I really value battle systems - since you spend hours in battle in each game - but apparently pretty graphics + numbers flying everywhere = better.
