It seems kind of dumb to ask the question but here it goes...

Unfortunately I missed out on the whole overclocking madness of GTO /2 series and now am sitting here watching major retailers price gouging like never before (Newegg! whats up with that)

Best prices on pricewatch and pricegrabber is 260 or higher...::sigh::

So I know its not worth paying 250 or more for these cards so...

I guess my question is...will there ever be another shop who would sell this card at the price that it was supposed to...

I'm about to set up my rig soon and just TORN about the choice of overclocking or going with stock speed.

Thanks all

No, I do not think they are going back down. The Connect3D X800 GTO also has an almost 100% successful unlock rate. Its is around $185.

I've wondered if there might be some "out-of-the-way" e-tailer that might have them for a reasonable price. Of course the problem with that is that they tend to have inflated prices anyway. I also wonder if there might be a bricks 'n' morter store somewhere that would have them from around $200, but then again, they normally charge 50% more than the good e-tailers, so the answer is probably "no".

If you didn't jump on the deal in the first couple days after it was announced you didn't get in on it. :-(

But don't worry...Black Friday is less than a month away now. Who knows what kind of deals will be available? 7800 GT for $275? Who knows.

I'd say that considering how cheap the 7800GTs can be found for, they damn close to being as hot of a deal.

As previously mentioned, the Connect3D X800GTO is moddable into an X800XT after some overclocking, and its success rate is almost 100%.

*Edit*
And is under $200, I meant to add.

But nobody is gonna buy a real x850xt when you can have a 7800gt for the same price. If I were Ati, I'd fully support releasing moddable cards like the gto, seeing how well they sell.

Considering that there is a limited supply of liquidated R480 cores I doubt the price will go down anytime soon . . . The GTO/GTO2 was an after thought by ATI anyway . . .

Sign up for auto-notification on some of the lower priced e-tailors that have them OOS. I did that about 3 weeks ago on ZipZoomFly and they notified me on Tuesday night. I just received my GTO2 via Fedex, cost was $229 shipped. Just pulled off the Heatsink, has an R480 core, memory is GC16, so I am guessing 1.6ns?

okay, but it depends on the options. cheapest x850xt in europe (germany) is a PowerColor GameFX-Radeon X850XT for 270 Euros while the cheapest 7800GT i was able to find is the Gainward PowerPack! Ultra/3400 PCX for 335,- Euros.
