Will WinXPpro upgrade work on clean disk?

Plan to use upgrade version of WinXPpro to build a fresh system from scratch on formatted hard drive.
Have full version of Win98 to upgrade from.
Since XP upgrade won't find any 98 files on the disk, will it just ask me to insert the 98 CD for verification?
(That is what my WinMe upgrade version does when I do a clean Me install on blank disk).

raediant, yes that's exactly what will happen. At some point in the XP Pro install it will ask you to put in the CD of a qualifying upgrade operating system.

Owensdj. Tks. Just occurred to me. Have been used to doing "DOS" style disk partitioning and formatting (using FAT32). With the WinXP drive I shall be using NTFS. How do I go about partitioning and formatting the drive for NTFS? I don't have any utilities (FDISK FORMAT) to do it. Cheers.
