Will window tinting help cut down on the heat in my car?

I drive for a living and last summer after every stop I would get into a sweltering hot car and the A/C would take forever to cool it down.

I looked up the New York laws and it says:
Visor.................6"
Front doors............72%
Rear doors..........72%
Back window.........any


Will 72% do any good in helping to keep the car cooler or is it just a waste of money?

it should cut the sunlight that gets into the car. thus reducing the heat inside. the outside might be hot.
 
😛 If window tinting isn't a good answer, is there something else that would help keep the car cool?
I know if I get a metallized tint my radar detector won't pick up squat behind the car and I'd have to get a license plate ez-pass which can easily get stolen. 🙁
I saw those solar powered window fan things a few years ago but I don't haven't seen them in recent years.

Types
Vehicle tints are manufactured in the following ranges:

Dyed polyester (no metal) will give approximatley 40% heat reduction and generally carry a 3 year warranty. Typical film is Charcoal.

Dyed polyester with an aluminium base will give approximately 50% heat reduction and generally carry a 10 year warranty. Typical films are Performance Charcoal and Steel Blue.

Metal alloy based films (some with a dye) give approximately 60% heat reduction and carry manufacturers lifetime warranties. Typical films are Autolux, Cybertint and Hi-Performance Charcoal. Metals used are usually Nickel or Titanium alloys.

 
Even a light tint is going to significantly reduce the interior heat of your car when parked or driven in the sun. It gets hot in there because of the greenhouse-like effect taking place.

Hmm so window tinting does help. I went looking for those solar fans and found they only work in direct sunlight, I'd have to stick them on both sides and take them out when driving to keep road noise down. Not a viable option. 🙁

Do they make upgrades for car A/C systems to increase their cooling capabilities?
 
it does... but you should also use one of those windshield visor things and crack the sunroof and / or the windows 1/4"

72% are you sure thats right? usually this % indicates the light transmitted. so, 5% is darker than 35%. 72% is next to nothing. maybe ny laws measure light blocked? regardless, adding a tint should help keep your car a little cooler. im gonna get one done in the next few weeks... 35 on the sides and 20 on the rear window.
 
Just get one of those windshield visor heat reflectors.. it helps keep the heat out. And open the moon/sun roof a jar and the windows open ajar.
