will Win95 slow down my cracking?

i have a P200 system which is running flawlessly(has next to no software, if any, running. the person who gave it to me wiped the hdd clean) and as soon as i get a 10' cat5 it's going on my dsl to start cracking. i have an OEM Win98SE cd, and i was wondering if it would get a performance boost with windows 98, or should i just leave it as is now(seeing as how there are no conflicts i have seen yet) 😕
 
yeah but i don't want to gut this thing yet. it may end up as my PProxy, and i don't feel like fooling around in that cramped little case to reconnect the hdd's etc. 😛
 
You don't have to gut it to run Klinux. Klinux runs on a floppy. You can leave your hard drive just as it is. I've tested it. Works just fine.
 
so i can just boot from the floppy, and if i need windows for some reason i just pop the floppy out?
 
great! i just used the dial-up to buffer 1500 blocks(i figure it'll take the p200 a while to do that)

will Klinux support any NIC's or just the one's listed?(i know this box has a 3Com, i just have no clue what model it is 😱)
 
i got it to boot, but the computer isn't on a LAN yet, so i just put in some random numbers for the IP etc.

i'm going to have to get used to the text, i've gone soft on Windowz GUI 😱
 
toph, if you don't have a LAN, don't run Klinux. Last time I checked, it still didn't support the ability to save blocks to the floppy.🙁
