Will win2k work on a..........

why not? i got it once running in a 48Mbram laptop with a p 150mhz and 2.4gb, so yes you can run it!
well actually i did not do a clean install i upgrade it.

Thx, anyone else have anything to say?

The reason why I asked was that some ppl i know kept saying "you have to have a really fast computer to run it and 256mb or ram minimum". But I've seen all of you here run it on many different systems.

although i don't know about the laptop above, i am fairly certain your computer is fast enough ... a celeron should be fine. just don't install win2k advanced server.

I've run Win2k Pro on a 200 Mhz IDT Winchip machine with 96 meg of ram. Not the fastest but it did work and was stable.

Would it be faster than running my current 98se? It'll for sure be more stable =). I've used it once on a p3 600, that's why i want to use it on my own, probably i'll do a dual boot with 98se and win2k

Your computer is fine to use Win2k.

I ran Win2k with 128MB RAM, the only time I noticed a problem was in really memory hungry games like Diablo2 that use 110MB.

Damn man, I had to run Diablo2 and Quake3 at the same time to get over 256MB...

192 is enough.

And a Cel500 is fast enough.

Win2k can always benefit from more RAM, but 192MB is certainly enough to make it run happily.

Thx guys! My confidence level has just risen 🙂

How would i make my system dual boot if i have win98se on there already?
I'm probably going to get another faster HD and put win2k on it and have win98 on the other one, how would i go about making the system dual boot since there are 2hd's.... is it fairly easy to learn and do.

Thx

Well just finished installing Win2K Advanced Server on a PII 350 with 64MB ram and a 6GB HD. Well the machine works, even though MS specs refer to a minimum of 256mb ram. I installed it because I got fed up with trying to download Win2KPro warez. It was easier to get Ad Server, probably because less people want it.

<< is it fairly easy to learn and do. >>

It's easy. Just get Win98 set up, then install Win2k - it'll set everything up the way it needs to be. Usually, at least......

is it more important to have more mhz or more ram: ie what would be better- 64 megs ram, ~500 mhz pIII, or 320 megs ram , 300 mhz celeron. Im interested in upgrading my pc for 2k, what would you suggest?

If your only two choices are "500MHz P3 & 64MB" or "300MHz Celeron & 320MB" then I'd definitely opt for the latter. With Win2k, the extra 256MB RAM will help more than the faster processor would.
