Will UPS ship a scanner in its original box...

...with no other packing, double-boxing, etc? I sold a new scanner on ebay and it is, of course, in the original box. But last time I tried to ship a computer part via UPS, they were VERY picky on the packaging.

Does anyone know their rules on something like this?

I pick up packages at the UPS center 3-4 times a week.

I see quite a few computer parts in original packaging - monitors, printers, scanners, etc.

The real question here should be whether or not YOU are brave enough to ship a scanner in its original packaging with UPS.

the scanner i got was shipped in it's original packaging.

some devices are packed for shipping. some are not.

most monitors are, for example. so was the scanner.

I think they probably will accept it, but do what most online retailers do and ship it in a second box with packing peanuts. It might irritate the buyer that they've got this monstrous box and a few pounds of foam, but at least the scanner has a decent chance of making it there! Plus, it's nice that the original box doesn't have a UPS sticker on it that tears when you try to remove it.

Like mentioned, if it's packed for shipping and not very small (i.e. easily crushable) it should be fine. Most scanners, printers, and monitors always come like this. You could double-box but they are often awkward sized, leading to many more pounds of shipment weight than necessary.
