Will upgrading motherboard/chip on a current OS be advisable?

..or should I completely format my hard drive and do a fresh install? I ask this because my current setup: AthlonXP 1800+, Abit (kt133a) KR7a motherboard...is about to be replaced by a 2400+ and an nForce II motherboard from ASUS. Will there be any complications foreseeable? I've installed hyperion4in1 drivers and SP1 already with this current setup...that's where I have some gray area about the whole situation.

Appreciate any and all feedback..

I have NEVER been successful when using Windows 2000. I always end up doing a full reinstall.

I don't know if XP is any better.

I figure just to be on the safe side and to avoid any future conflictions...I might as well just move things to the seperate drive and do a clean install...I just dread the time it takes hehe.

I've heard of WinXP being able to detect the difference and reinstall/get rid of the necessary files. I have no choice but to switch motherboards so I'm going to be winging it...

I've done it with Win98 SE. The machine runs fine, but I'm not sure how the stability or speed is (did it to someone else's system who couldn't afford to lose data and had no backup system -- go figure). If at all possible, do a full refresh after you have made the switch and backed up your data.

I've done it from a KX133 chipset to 440BX on Win98SE, when trying to go back caused nothing but problems.... I would just format it, give you a nice clean start too.
