Tom Hanks

Once upon a time, when he was in Busom Buddies, Bachelor Party, Bananas, The 'Burbs, Money Pit, etc... Who would have ever thought that after having been in the movies for so long that he would eventually win an Oscar? (And then another)

Then he should have won a 3rd for his performance in SPR, not some foreigner in a mundane comedy.

he's been nominated three times so its not exactly out of the realm of possibility. the only way i think he'll get one though is by doing an art film. and by that, i mean 'art' is his co-star. 😉

Nah, he just needs the right epic-type movie to come along a la Russell Crowe. I'm sure he thought he had it with The Last Samurai. I don't see him in an artsy role, but I'm sure it's a possibility.

vanilla sky was kinda artsy wasn't it?

Oscar? For what?? he's not that calibur of actor. He might have been close with Jerry Maguire, but he still was more comedic than dramatic.

no. and his movies wont get a dime from me after the stunt he pulled with the south park episode. not that it matters to him or anyone else...

He's a good actor who does not show it often. He was great in Born on the 4th of July and Magnolia, for example. And Rain Man.

I agree he was good in Born on the 4th of July, probably his best performance. I didn't think he was that great in Magnolia, certainly not an oscarworthy performance. And Dustin Hoffman carried RainMan, not Cruise.

No, he's a just a pretty boy. He's not that great an actor IMO.

Are you kidding me? TC is the man. His movies have grossed over 2.5 Billion dollars and he has had some outstanding acting performances.

War of the Worlds over 200 million
Collateral over 100 million
Last Samurai over 100 million
Minority Report over 130 mill
MI2 over 200 million
MI overover 180 mill
Jerry Maguire over 150 mill
Interview with a Vampire over 100 mill
The Firm over 150 mill one of my all time favorites 🙂
A Few Good Men over 140 mill
Rainman over 170 mill
Top Gun over 170 mill
And one of the alltime great cult flicks Risky Business 😀

Now in some of those movies he starred with other good actors, but he was the headliner. Now if you think a bad actor can run out a resume like this your an idiot.

And he should win an oscar. There are a lot of great actors who have not won an oscar. And no Dustin Hoffman didn't carry Cruise in Rainman

Nice list, I enjoyed all of those movies too. I like Tom Cruise and think he has the time and talent to pull an Oscar.

There's no question he scores at the box office. I never said he was a bad actor, I said I don't think he's that great an actor. I liked many of the movies he was in, that doesn't mean he's a great actor. I define a great actor as someone who draws you into the script, makes you think it's real. To me, TC always seems like he's acting, it never becomes real to me.

Oh, and if you're a big fan of The Firm, I gotta tell you, I met Steven Hill not too long ago (He plays the FBI Director). What an interesting man.

This is just me. I define a great actor first and foremost how well does the films he star in do at the boxoffice. To me that is the line in the sand, because if your good people will pay to see you, if not then there is something wrong. Now I believe TC is great in the movies he does. I don't think he has the greatness of a Tom Hanks who has great range. TC could not have done Forrest Gump 🙂. But as an action type movie personality I don't think there have been many better, maybe a couple at best. Truthfully I was surprised he did so well in Jerry Maguire. I also don't think dude is gay either. If he is, I sure wish I could get his gayness, so I could get with Nicole, Katie, and some of the other fine babes he's been with 😀.

You're a big fan of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera too then, aren't you?

The only part I agree with is the gay thing. 🙂

He has won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a drama for Born on the Fourth of July. He was pretty good in that role. Cruise was also nominated for an Oscar that year and lost to Daniel Day-Lewis in 'My Left Foot.'
