Will this work?

I just had a machine dropped off and the OS is not valid/coa.
I talked to the owner who agreed to purchase a new OS.

Here's the question...
Can I back up his original hdd (c) to his second drive (d) with MS backup/restore, install the new OS on drive c, then restore with the backup file on drive d?
Will it fly?

It's a laziness issue. I don't want to piecemail his files and drop them back in place.
That shyt bores me to death.

Backup to D with MS Backup - Yes
Install Os - Yes
Restore - No, unless you restore only to a folder and have him or you copy out the files they want to keep

Thanks DAhak. 🙂

do they still have those programs which will allow you to change the cd key of the windows installed on the comp? if so just use that... or if that's not your problem then ok.

That may get it, too. It's worth a try.
