Will this work for COD Modern Warfare II and PS6

Hi,

I am reading through the threads and I am starting to get dizzy. This is what I have come up with so far. I mostly edit 90-600mb Film files that are scanned with a tango drum scanner. The scans are from 4x5 and medium format film, also I have huge files from editing my digital camera files. I play alot of COD Modern Warfare.

My current system is the following:

AMD Phenom II X4 940 @ 3300mhz
EVGA 9800Gt
8Gb G SKill Ram pc2-6400 (400mhz)
MSI MS7388
Corsair 750w powersupply
Plextor BluRay Burner
AirCooled

This system cannot handle the files.

I am looking to buy the following:

Logisys Computer CS8009BK Case
Noctua NHL9F air cooler
ASRock Z77 OC Formula LGA 1155 or ASROCK z77 Pro 4 ( I need firewire for my scanner)
EVGA Titan 6Gb
Corsair HX Series HX850
corsair dominator platinum 16gb or 32gb
Creative 7.1 channel soundcard
Intel i7-2600 Sandy Bridge or the 3770K everyone is talking about
Samsung 840 Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Disk or Better?
Dell Ultrasharp U2413

Will this work or are there better options at a realistic price? I am looking to get the best bang for the buck, no hype.

Will that work? Sure.
Are some parts of it insanely expensive for what you are trying to do? Absolutely.

Please update your post with the answers to the questions posed in the sticky and we can get you sorted out.

One question to go along with the sticky questions: When you say "This system cannot handle the files", do you mean the system absolutely refuses to work with them (out-of-memory error), the system uses up all available RAM and starts swapping to disk, or that the system doesn't use all available RAM but that it's too slow for you? How much memory does Task Manager say the "system" (PS6?) is using when trying to handle the files?

The system can use the files but it starts running very slow and the ram gets used up and starts going to the disk. I never understood why the disk was making soo much clatter when I was running these files until I read up on it.

I have PS6 allocating the memory use to about 5400mb? I was reading that you should use a scratch disk, but I can't seem to figure out how that would work.
My concern is getting the right SSD drive because I read the Samsung might go dead and is a so so drive. I am looking at the OCZ drives.

Samsung's 840 series are very good SSDs for the price.

While I must admit that OCZ SSDs are now better than they were (and they were really bad at one point), I still wouldn't trust an OCZ SSD for anything more important than serving as a paperweight on my desk.

An EVGA Titan? Kind of overkill, wouldn't you say?

Hi, I was told the 6gb would be good for processing the 600mb files. If you guys have a recommendation on a card that would save me money and still give me results very close to the Titan, I am open to suggestions. This is why I posted here so I can get the best bang for buck. I don't want to buy something that people hype up when there is a very little increase in performance. Going through all the reviews is making my head spin.

I think you're confusing system and graphics RAM. System RAM is located on your mainboard. Graphics RAM is located on your graphics card and has no effect on the main system RAM. Its only used for processing graphics and GPU compute.

When you're manipulating large image files, you should have at least 16GB system RAM. Depending on size and resolution you might even consider 32GB.

My PC will be mostly used for 60to 600mb files, I use Photoshop CS6 and play COD modern Warfare II

My Price range is from 2000 to 2,500 but I am currently over.

I will be buying from NewEgg

I don't have a brand preference but from what I have been reading Intel is the way to go.

I might overclock the system.
I live in Michigan USA

Here is what I have on my list so far

1 Evga Geforce GTX690 4GB
Corsair HX850
TT esports Knucker
Logitech G9
Geil EVO Corsa 16gb the best for the ASRock MB
Noctua NH-U12P
LG Black Blue Ray Burner
Corsair Force Series GS CSSD F360
Intel Core I7 - 3770l Ivy Bridge
ASRock Z77 Extreme 9 LGA77 1155 Intel ATX
Not Now but a Dell Ultrasharp U2410 24" Black
Still haven't figured out what case to go with.
Total w/o monitor 3,124.89

Guess I am going to have to save

Okay, I think I can see where this is going. A 690 is complete and utter overkill for 1200p. You'll be better served by a much cheaper 670. Do you really need all the features of the Extreme9?. If not its just wasted money. The alternative is an Extreme6/4 or ASUS P8Z77-V (Pro). Both are a MUCH better buy, if you're not running some exotic quad-SLI rig...

Do bump the RAM to 32GB, it will help more then a flashy graphics card. Regarding the SSD, stay away from Sandforce-based drives. They have a nasty reputation for being unreliable. Look at Samsung's 840pro instead.

Let me add a few pointers here as well:

(1) Graphics card: for your purposes, any GTX600-series card will do. I would recommend something like this incredibly low-priced (for now) Galaxy GTX660: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814162122

It will do everything you want in PS6 and will perform extremely well in COD, which is not a graphically-intensive game.

(2) PSU: Your power supply is much higher wattage than you need. A 500w unit would be plenty. This Seasonic 550w model offers Gold efficiency and a great warranty for $90: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151119

(3) RAM: you should definitely get 32GB of RAM, but note that you either need Windows 7 (edit🙂 Professional or Windows 8. Win7 Home Premium does not support over 16GB.

(4) Case: I'd recommend the very reasonably-priced Corsair 200R, which will be great for your straightforward build and will run quietly: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811139018

(5) SSD - Definitely skip the Corsair Force and get a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD (which is better than the "840"), plus a hard drive for storage, since you'll definitely run out of space fast. Here's the Samsung: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electr...amsung+840+pro

(6) Motherboard: I assume you're looking at that high-end MB due to the need for firewire. You have to pay a premium for that older interface, but luckily the AsRock Extreme6 has you covered at $150: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157295

Hope that helps, and good luck!

The only criticism I have of Termie's build is that the graphics card is a bit weak for full detail, ultra quality games at 1200p. A 670 (for $360 after a $20 rebate) will serve much better (or a 7970 for $400). The 670 comes with free in-game currency (in Hawken, Planetside, and World of Tanks) while the 7970 comes with Bioshock Infinite and Crysis 3.

Additionally, to forestall any objection over RAM: the motherboard manufacturer test sticks that they have on hand. However, that does not mean other kinds will not work. Pretty much any kind of DDR3, 1600MHz, CL9 RAM will work perfectly fine.

Way overkill for MW2 i can max it with a GT 440. Go for a i7-3770K, 32GB RAM, GTX 660 or GTX 670, 500w PSU, SSD

That is true in general, but we're talking about MW2, which is a 3 1/2 year old Xbox game. A GTX 660 will absolutely crush it.

No worries. Professional support 192GB RAM too... 😉

By the way I have Windows 7 Pro 64bit, What is everyone opinions about Windows 8, is it going to be like Vista?

I do recommend you try it before you buy it. Some like it, others hate it... ()🙂

Good catch - I forgot how many versions of Windows 7 there are!

And I agree - for the average "power user", Windows 7 is probably preferable to Windows 8. I tried Win8 and didn't much care for the layering of the new theme on top of the old desktop (or vice versa, depending on your perspective).

SF drives are unreliable!! This is not acceptable by me and hurting! I do know the general perception about SF which is why many are against this. I am using Intel based SF SSDs in my lab and acknowledge that there were issues early on due to firmware incompatibility. However, after the patch updates it really has far exceeded my expectations and doing good. This is pure out of my experience and not being paid for supporting SF!!

Intel SF drives are the exception to the rule. The 330/335's are pretty good actually. Not to mention cheap (at least where I live). We use some of them at work, and they have been reliable so far. 520's are okay too.
