Will this system be sufficient for most games out currently?

XP2100 @ 2.1ghz
256 MB PC2100 SDRAm @ 145mhz
160GB SATA HDD
Sapphire Radeon 9600 PRO Ultimate 128MB OC'd (not sure yet waiting for it to get here)
KT600 motherboard

etc

I havnt really played any current games recently. I've been sticking to Q3, Counterstrike, and I used to do EQ (notice I said do, like it was a drug ;)

I will bench the system and find out for myselfas soon as i get the last parts.

My previous vid card was a GeForce GTS2 32mb, and an ATI Radeo nLE 7200

I would add another 256MB of RAM. Other than that, its great.

Yeah I knew the ram was lacking, forgot to mention that was next on the list for upgrade.

Trying to decide between another 256MB of PC2100 or selling the one stick and geting 512 of 3200

What FSB and mult is your processor running at? If your FSB is faster or could be, but is currently restricted by the PC2100 upgrade to PC3200. If your processor can't handle a higher FSB, more PC2100 would probably be a lot cheaper.

I would sell the old and get a 512 of 3200 Just to be future proof if you can afford it. If not pc2100 will do fine, there isnt THAT much of a difference, UNLESS you are overclokcing.

At least another 256mb.
If it was me, i`d go for at least 768mb of ram. Go and buy a 512mb module. Buy PC3200, you can then probably use in a future system then.

I think one of the stupidest things people do is buy things for the future. Don't do that, you'll save yourself money. The industry goes too fast for that.

I say buy another stick of 256MB of PC2100 RAM because having the two sticks compared to the one larger stick will decrease latency by 5-10%.

Windows XP recommends 128MB's of RAM
Have 128MB of RAM for programs
Have 128MB of RAM for AGP Aperature
Have another 128MB of RAM for Headroom

More than 512 I think is unneeded at this time.

Go and play Sim City4 or C&C Generals with 512mb, then with 768mb, then 1gb. And tell us all you didnt notice a speed difference between the three.

Don't play those games, sorry, but I can understand because of so many moving things. I do not have the resources to test it, but I would like to. I play FPS's and rarely does it need more than 256MB or RAM. What do you notice?

I noticed that C&C Generals smoothed out alot with more memory.
I also noticed that alot of FPS games took less time to load and stuttered less with more memory.
For the last 6 months, ive allways said that any less than 512mb is daft.
I personally, get as much memory as my pocket allows. For example. my existing system has 768mm of memory. When i do my next upgrade, i`ll be getting 1gb of memory. You can never have too much imo. If my PC didnt have as much memory as it did, then alot of the things it does, it would struggle to do.

Just add memory and water every other day. :)

512 is pretty good for most apps, though 1GB is even better (in my experience). Other than that, looks good.

even my company's rig has 512mb of ram, itz a p3 1g. and I am not even working at a tech company

I used to have 768mb of ram till one day i started using torrrent....
I am now at 1.3g of ram, and I would say yes, even at 768mb, you need upgrade, there is a difference

at 1gb, there is no swipe file, and windown excute much smoooother,

I play warcraft 3 only.

recently got leaked hl, my 9600pro will arrive today.....

I suggest you get 512mb of 3200, sort of future proof, i do not see ddr2 coming out next year.
then why should we worry about getting pc3200??

everyone's saying buy 3200 for the future... the one thing i've learned is never buy hardware for the future. The future is tomorrow, and in two days, the future is already behind you... so buying ahead of time is a waste of $ nowadays unless you plan on upgrading your cpu tomorrow. At this point, I'd pick up another 256 pc2100 for $20 or so from ebay.

Other than that... your system is rock solid for a while.

Purchased some used crucial, another 2 256MB, so I will have 3x256 crucial PC2100... couldnt argue with the price difference.
