Will this processor work on my mobo?

Will a Duron850 Slot1 work on this mobo I got for free? It's currently running a slot1 AMD 550. It's OEM so not identifyable. I know a concrete yes or no isn't possible w/o identifying mobo, but I'm just asking for your guys opinion.

Maybe I am confused or something, but I thought slot 1 was intel?

Sounds like you have a "slot a" motherboard with classic athlon 550 cpu. Your mobo won't work with any duron or athlon "socket a" cpu.

I would be very careful about putting a T-Bird Slot A into that mobo. Thunderbirds have a significantly lower vcore than the Classic Athlon and you could fry your CPU if it treats it like a Classic Athlon. The highest CPU I would feel safe about trying is a 1GHz Classic Athlon🙁

Any idea where I'd get a SlotA 800mhz or over that's not a Tbird?

If the board has Amd chipsets aka irongate 751 and 756 it should support a thunderbird core. Slot A tbirds are cheaper than classics right now. I recently sold a 950 classic on ebay for $140.
