Here is what i want to do. I have two monitors a decent 19" monitor and an old 15" monitor.
I also have 3 computers. 2 servers and an all purpose computer.
So, what i wanted to do was have the two servers share the 15" monitor and also put another video card in my mulitipurpose machine so i could run another application like my TV Card on the seperate monitor while i was doing work on my 19". So i would would have 3 vga inputs to the switch.
I've heard the biggest problems with the KVM switches is they either have wacky or loose control over the mouse (never heard of the keyboard being a problem). And ghosting... is that just like seeing one vga input over another happens with older tvs sometimes?
And can usually be fixed by better shielded cables.
Quality of the picture isn't a big factor i'm using an old monitor and the most graphic intense thing i'd have to do is output from the tv card which isn't that great anyway.
I will be using a generic mouse and keyboard so i don't have any intelli-mouse problems. I could use a serial mouse or a ps/2 mouse has anyone noticed a stablity increase with either?
I don't want to spend even 70 dollars for this application. I've seen on egay and websites a 4 port KVM for 20 dollars. All the feedback i've seen has been that they work fine. I was thinking i'd put some money into some higher quality vga cables and if the mouse was still a big problem i'd use a seperate mouse for each setup.
Summary:
Port 1 - Muliti-Purpose computers dual monitor output used mostly for tv... No mouse or keyboard would be connected to switch i'd use mouse and keyboard directly connected
Port 2 - Server - Win2k would share the keyboard and mouse with the linux box.
Port 3 - Linux Server - same perfs as port 2
Port 4 - nothing for time being maybe labtop.
Anyone one of these generic boxes made by oscar and sold here
