So i just recently bought a "GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Superclocked EE 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card" off newegg 2 days ago for my computer tower and I was jut wondering what you guys think about it working well or not with this:
--e8400 3.0 ghz CPU
--pa-35 DS3L gigabyte mobo
--(pretty sure this is my PSU) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139003

bought it mainly to play battlefield 3. what do you guys think?

the PSU is more than sufficient
the CPU might limit you in some games, but not by too much
the 460 is great for resolutions up to 1920x1200, maybe higher if you don't mind lower game settings

yeah i've seen that my cpu is limiting me a lot, do you think i should try overclocking it and getting more cooling or just buying an i5 or something?

I would play first.then you will see how it's going.and myself i dont like overclocking so if you dont like the perfomence go with i5.

Hi

The PSU won't be a problem.

The idea of going with an i5 or i3 processor means having to get a different motherboard and new DDR3 RAM. (current e8500 is a socket 775 whereas the i3 and i5 are going to be an 1155 socket).

Your system, (depending on how much RAM you have) should run the game although it will run much better with a quad core rather than your current dual core.

I'd recommend Windows 7 64 bit to take advantage of an up grade in RAM. Eight Gigs of DDR 2 can be had on sale for 100.00 -120.00, if you want to go the upgrade path.

Best idea though is to bite the bullet and buy an i5-2500K (240.00), 8 GB DDR3 RAM (50.00 on sale) and a new Motherboard to go with the CPU (150.00 -180.00 will get you a good 1155 board).

Good luck!

can a p45 ds3l mobo run an I5 CPU?

Nope - unfortunately not :/ - nice board though. I always go Gigabyte myself.

In fact I just upgraded from a C2D sytem similar to the one you describe and went with Sandy Bridge. Awesome stuff. If I was you, building right now, I wouln't even consider C2D. It's last generation technology really.

Having said that though, I'm one of those people who builds fast computers just because they're fast. The system you describe WILL run Battlefield fine. Do have a look at the price difference with an i5 though... you might be surprised...

BTW I don't think you'll bottleneck that 460 whatever processor you get. Did you already buy it? Can you return it at all? There's much faster cards out there. Have a look at AMD/ATI...

/edit: ...assuming you've got a bit of flexibility on the budget that is.
