My gf and I bought this card that says "For you" -> "To the new mom... Happy mothers day". The envelope says "Happy Mothers day" just so her mom will open the card, but it will say that I love you to my gf. This will get a shock reaction from her mom. I've known her family for over a year now, but we're not really close. I figure this might be a fun way to kinda break the ice. I am 21 and so is my gf. Her parents/whole family are quite religious.

What do you guys think?
 
Haha, quite a good joke.

It's either going to work out really well or blow up in your face. How good is her family's sense of humor?

i think it's hilarious. if your gf agrees, then i'd say go for it. better yet, get her mom a happy grandmother's day card! 🙂
 
that is definately a ballsy move. funny nonetheless. id be careful about it (esp since you dont even know them and they're religious).

I was thinking of a grandma card, but I couldn't find one we both liked 🙂

I think I'll also give her mom a few flowers and say that I was just trying to get their goat.
 
Been there, done that. We gave my mother a pregnancy test that a friend who was pregnant used. It worked and was funny but 2 months later she was really pregnant. :\
 
For the right mother it's really funny. For the wrong mother you'd be better off trying to shave with a chainsaw. My GF's mom would likely hire somebody to have me killed before stopping to consider it might be a joke, so there's no way I'd try it. If your GF's mom is cool enough to handle the joke go for it.

LIke kenazo said save it for a engagment announcment or when she is really pregnant.

But if they are cool people why not? whats the worse they can do? shoot you?

I think it would go over well if her family knew you well...but if not, it's a damn bad idea.

Yeah, sounds like a bad idea to me. Even though it will be a joke, it presents a picture of you and her daughter banging away like rabbits, not what a mother wants to think about, really.
